Rodeo Masbateño Festival is an annual event which takes place in MasbateCity which showcases skills in livestock handling, like lassoing, wrestling and riding cattle. This event also included a fair, exhibitions and trade of cattle and horses. This annual event is held every summer especially month of April. Rodeo Masbateño was conceived in 1992 as away of uplifting the local cattle industry. It was started by the group of ranchers and businesspeople of Masbate known as MAKUSOG, who formed the Rodeo Masbateño Foundation. In 1993, through the effort and support of Masbate Provincial governor Emilio Espinosa Jr. the first rodeo was staged. And it’s become an annual event until this time in order to improve the tourism and increase the local pride and the uniqueness of the event in whole region as well as in country. The first known for this event was Rodeo Filipino, but it was change to Rodeo Masbateño. It grow up into a national event over the years in order to attract tourists all over the country and world as a whole. For the success of this event, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo declared Masbate as the Rodeo Capital of the country on September 2, 2002 through the Executive Order No. 120. Masbate has also become a Rodeo capital in Asia and given a Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association of America. The homegrown cowboys, who’s Rodeo talents has been honored at the festival, have participated in the National Rodeo Finals in Las Vegas, NevadaUSA.
